Can I change the decimal places of units of measurement even after entries have been recorded for the stock items?
Answer
Yes. In Tally.ERP 9 Release 3.6 onwards, Decimal places for Unit of Measurements can now be altered (Increased) even after entries have been made for the Stock Items concerned. For more details.. Ad Follows.... |
However, if you try to decrease the decimal places, the alert message Cannot decrease the number of decimal places is displayed when you try to save the altered master. This is because the entries passed previously will not be reflected properly in the vouchers and reports if we allow decreasing the number of decimal places.
For Example: In case the quantity of an item is previously mentioned as 153.75kg @ Rs.100/kg, which amounts to Rs.15375. Now if the number of decimal places is reduced to 0, then the quantity will have to be reduced to 153.00kg @ Rs.100, which amounts to Rs.15300. Here, there is a difference of Rs.75. Similarly for larger amounts there will be huge differences which cannot be adjusted. Due to this we have restricted “decreasing” the number of decimal places for a Unit of Measure. Therefore, if the number of decimal places specified in the UOM master is “2”, then you cannot decrease it to “1”. |
