Query

Why is the error message - PARENT BELONGS TO ANOTHER CATEGORY! when a Cost Centre is put under another Cost Centre (parent)?

Solution

This error occurs when you have attempted to assign a cost centre to a parent cost centre belonging to a different category. In most places, Tally.ERP9 prevents you from making this error by not displaying a cost centre belonging to a different category. However, this prevention is not possible when you are altering a cost centre in multiple mode - selecting 'All Items' in the field 'Under Cost Centre' (You may chosen to skip either or both).

You may have changed the Category first, but not changed the name and the parent. Since the parent could have belonged to a different category, Tally.ERP9 displays an error message on screen. However, Tally.ERP9 is able to ascertain this error only when you accept the screen.
